Student Athlete Advisory Committee
What is SAAC? SAAC is a way for Student Athletes to have a voice in the NCAA through advisory committees at the campus, conference, and national levels. As a member of SAAC, I represent the ODU Swim and Dive team and am a liaison for my team. I am in charge of bringing whatever needs my team has to the table at SAAC meetings. Within SAAC, I am on the Golden Monarchs Award Ceremony planning committee, collaborating with other teams' representatives to plan the culminating celebration to honor all Student-Athletes at the end of all sports seasons in the Spring.

Senior Sport Management and Marketing Student at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA
I am a recruited athlete on the Old Dominion Swim and Dive Team. In addition to my full course load, job and volunteer positions, I've made a commitment to complete 20 hours/week of mandatory training, plus compete in swim meets, many of which involve travel. I compete in mostly mid-distance freestyle, breaststroke, and IM (individual medley). Swimming has been a part of my life since I was very young and it runs in my blood. Becoming a collegiate athlete has been one of the best decisions I've ever made! I met my second family and made fifty instant friends. Swimming has taught me time management skills, how to set goals and be determined to reach them, resiliency, how to work together as a team, and much more. Without swimming, I don't think I would be the person I am today.
Going to school near Virginia beach is great for team bonding and beach practices! As a team, when the weather allows for it, we will occasionally have practices at the beach! It's a great change in scenery and wonderful way to start/end the season!
ODU Swim and Dive takes on the first Championship Effort event of the year this Fall in front of the Chartway Arena where basketball plays. Championship Effort is a holistic program for all student-athletes in the areas of leadership, professional development, and life skills. The program sets a goal to develop “complete” student-athletes through various events and seminars during the course of each academic year. It also includes the department's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, which you can learn more about on another page.
Any time we are given the opportunity to cheer and show off our spirit, as a swim team we go all out! This picture was taken before heading off to the Men's Soccer Championship game where there was a spirit contest between all the ODU sports teams. Guess who won... ODUSD!!!!
Dean's list Student-Athletes got the opportunity to be recognized for their success at one of the Monarchs home football games. These are the swimmers who had a 3.75 or higher to obtain a dean's list recognition.
TRaining Trip to Florida
Each Winter Break, we travel to Boca Raton, Florida to train for about a week. It is a great chance to train in a new and exciting environment and really come closer as a team. The training is intense, but anytime we have downtime, you can catch all of us at the beach relaxing in the sun or enjoying the refreshing ocean waves!
